This is why I can't watch those animal rescue shows anymore. You can take only so much human cruelty, stupidity and negligence. I can tell you from personal experience that if you have one of these as a pet, you'll have a completely devoted friend for life. His friendship is so intense, that some people are not suited for it. So give him to someone who can handle it, rather than ignore him to the extent that his eyes become infected and he goes blind.

You are absolutely right, William. Bones, our current dog, is a rat terrier rescue. He was found in a dumpster in Indiana, along with another dog, emaciated, cold and scared.
The rescue site named him Bones for obvious reasons. He's gotten his normal weight back, and he's a little prince of a friend. He is , in his own happy and unassuming way, living evidence of the transcending power of innocence.
What a guy!
Thanks for posting this.

Long live Bones.
