What should a stigma on illegitimacy mean?

Lydia answers at W4, against, especially, those conservatives who think our disapproval of Bristol Palin's pregnancy ought to be of such public reach that it embraces the ruination of her mother's career, or at the very least sends her back to Alaska to tend to the caribou herds. You'd almost think Mrs. Palin herself were the one who'd fornicated. Lydia's post is a model of good sense, reason, and charity - of the Christian sort. Her opponents will not admit it, for the hardness of their hearts.

this whole argument really chaps my hide. it reminds me of a time when i was ministering to a student who drank -- a lot. my principal told me i shouldn't let the boy into my home lest the boy think i condoned his immoral and illegal life-choices. my question to the principal was, "so what? i'm supposed to say 'this is a christian home, get the hell out!'?" grrrrrrrrrrr...
