Sick and tired

A few who stop by here have been (by email) wondering where I've been, and - no doubt weary of plundering the archives - when I'm likely to post again. Well, I'm under the weather right now, and then there is the awful necessity of playing teacher when I'd rather be here, unordained preacher of unvarnished truth; add to that many student papers in need of grading by the light of melting, midnight tapers, not to mention the book in urgent need of revising, and an article, too, against my protests the editor advising that, on our pilgrims' way to the land of milk and honey, the ignoble but pressing need yet remains: to make money. Though unable to get done all that I ought, I'll still try to put up a Sunday Thought.

Or, I just realized, we could do it this way:

A few who stop by here have been (by email) wondering
Where I've been, and - no doubt weary of plundering
The archives - when I'm likely to post again.
Well, I'm under the weather right now, and then
There is the awful necessity of playing teacher
When I'd rather be here, unordained preacher
Of unvarnished truth; add to that many student papers
In need of grading by the light of melting, midnight tapers,
Not to mention the book in urgent need of revising,
And an article, too, against my protests the editor advising
That, on our pilgrims' way to the land of milk and honey,
An ignoble but pressing need yet remains: to make money.
Though unable to get done all that I ought,
I'll still try to put up a Sunday Thought.

Like TSO, I have no problem with repeating myself. While you're there, check out this picture of an actual human soul. It's still restless, not yet having learned to "rest in Thee," but it's for real. I mean, that's what I thought one would like. Oh, and in a comment in this comment box, at the very bottom, where the subject of commenting came up, he offers the ultimate comment on commenting.

Hi-laire. You've found the secret of modern poetry - simply arrange sentences on separate lines and indent and voila! Instant poetry. Of course that's not to say I'm above writing poetry like that. I can and I do all the time. Here's a sample:

Anyway, sorry you're feeling under the weather, and sorry about the student papers. Work is the curse of the blogging class indeed. The money line for me was "I'd rather be here, unordained preacher of unvarnished truth...". Ain't it the truth. Blogs make us all preacher wannabes.
